[DONE] Walls of Jericho – Backpacking & Dayhiking

Walls-Of-Jericho-7-700x525

Hello Hikers! This trip has been on our minds for a couple of years and we are looking forward to making it happen this weekend! Be sure to click this text or the See More… link for the entire description.

The place known as the Walls of Jericho is a narrow canyon, about a half-mile long, with 200-foot-high vertical limestone bluffs on each side. Cedar trees cling to the upper heights of the walls. According to legend, Davy Crockett explored the area in the late 1700s. The site was named by a preacher who performed baptisms there in the late 1800s.

This adventure is open for all members, day-hikers and backpackers. If you are a day-hiker, please be aware that this hike will take about 6 hours round trip. Also note if you are in the Knoxville area this location is 3 hours away, so hiking 6 hours and driving 6 hours will make for a long day! The climb back out of this gorge is considered strenuous with a full hike rating of 11.8.
