Panther Branch Primtive Campsite

This campsite is pretty special and extremely well maintained. At peak season you can expect many visitors as this site has a resting bench in it. The fire pit is over stacked but ok for use. Plenty of tent and hammock spaces. This site could easily accommodate a group of six or more hikers. Water should be purified and is available year round 50 feet from the site. Bio area are all over, however be prepared to be spotted during the day.

This campsite is very well maintained and very busy. It is at the junction of several area hikes. There are table and firerings throughout.

North Mac Trail Primitive Campsite

Water Source Pretty far to panther branch creek. 1+ miles
Exposure Good tree canopy
Dangers Snakes & Bees witnessed. Coyote very active and heavy. No bear in the area. Overlook is very close by and can be dangerous.
Visitor Traffic Off trail but visible to hikers
Pet-Friendly Yes (leashed)
Permit Required? Permit Yes – $Free
This is a small campsite near the North Mac Overlook. It is visible from the trail but would be considered a little more private than others. Watch out for the overlook dropoffs.

Panther Gap Rockhouse Primitive Campsite

Water Source Falling water at the rockhouse and surrounding area
Exposure Rockhouse protection from the elements but VERY wet and muddy
Dangers Snakes & Bees witnessed. Coyote very active and heavy. No bear in the area.
Visitor Traffic Off main trails and not visible to hikers unless they visit the rockhouse.
Pet-Friendly Yes (leashed)
Permit Required? Permit Yes – $Free
This could be a very good location, however it is very muddy and not maintained very well. Wetness and mud are everywhere.
