The Ramsey Cascades Trail gains almost 2200 feet in elevation over its four-mile course, and is considered to be a moderately strenuous hike. However, hikers should note that the trail travels over some extremely rugged terrain over the last third-of-a-mile or so, making this a fairly difficult hike.

We plan on meeting at the trailhead around 10:00 am on Sunday and returning to the trailhead by 4pm on Sunday.

When making a decision on what to bring, remember to always be prepared for Tennessee weather changes. My normal top ten essentials for day hiking in the Smoky Mountains are:

1. Navigation (Map, compass and GPS)
2. Sun Protection (Sunscreen, lip protection, sunglasses)
3. Insulation (Jacket, vest, pants, gloves, hat)
4. Illumination (Headlamp, flashlight, batteries)
5. First Aid Kit (See more in our First Aid Section)
6. Fire Starting (Matches, lighter, fire-starter, waterproof container)
7. Knife or Multi-Tool
8. Food (Enough for the day, plus one extra day)
9. Hydration (Water for the day 2 Liters and purification system)
10. Emergency Shelter (emergency blanket, tent, bivy, etc.)
